Democracy is dead.....at least in North Carolina

RALEIGH -- North Carolina lawmakers shaping a compromise to reform a law allowing cities and towns to annex neighboring property owners against their will have so far ruled out allowing a local vote. A House judiciary committee Thursday made public revamped legislation that lawmakers hope will reduce complaints from property owners forced to join a municipality.

  • Oh no - of course no one should be able to complain about being sucked up by a town so we can pay even more taxes - without representation.

Lawmakers will consider more than two dozen amendments and try hammering out legislation Tuesday. The measure doesn't allow affected residents to vote on whether to accept annexation, something sought by protest groups. That idea is opposed by municipal officials who say local voting would thwart expansion.

  • No, let's nip that in the bud...we can't have people actively protesting annexation after the fact. Especially those of us who particularly bought our property because it was NOT in the town idiots jurisdiction...
These officials - being pimped by the Municipality overlords - should be run out of the state on a rail - today....

Texting-while-driving ban becomes law

But not until 1 December so all the slow people have time to grasp the concept and text about it...

Senators complained it was wrong to pass a law that is difficult for police to enforce, but supporters have said there is value in sending a message.

  • Get a grip people - it's a law - not an email request.

"It's all about safety, and I think we have a lot of law-abiding citizens," said Ron Wyatt, president of a local chapter of the North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police. "If people know it's illegal, we'd hope they'd abide by those rules."

  • You mean like the half-million illegal immigrants in North Carolina? Does this mean they can still text while driving, without a valid license, or insurance....?
